PHARMLABS™ is comprised of the highest level of chemical and biological scientist in the industry.
The Founder Greg Magdoff is a cannabis industry expert who has had his hands in the dirt from the very beginning, allowing him to truly understand the cannabis industry from seed to sale. Greg has an extensive background in business marketing and a vast experience with chemical science; specifically chromatography. Greg, who graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Marketing; worked for over a decade in one of the largest sales and marketing brokers in the United States representing major clients such as GlaxoSmithKline, Johnson and Johnson, Del Monte Foods, Delta/Moen, Quaker and Gatorade.
Greg opened the first PharmLabs LLC in 2011 and has continued to launch additional ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accredited cannabis chemical and biological analytical testing laboratories in Hawaii and California over the past few years.
Greg was instrumental in the software development and testing of PharmWare, a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), used throughout cannabis analytic laboratories across the country.
Greg helped create the first laboratory robotics/automation system designed specifically for cannabis laboratory sample preparation known as the CannaDeck. The CannaDeck System is an automation platform including a robotic sample processing system designed to automate sample prep for cannabis analysis of potency, pesticides, heavy metals, terpenes and residual solvents. In addition, the system performs microbiology assays, working with petri dishes as well as 3M PetriFilm Plates via a patent-pending SBS-compliant ProcessorModule. The CannaDeck system also automates ELISA assays, providing a comprehensive automation solution for cannabis testing labs.
Greg also has been very active in helping local municipalities, political groups and government bodies develop clear and concise policies and regulations for the cannabis industry. Greg has devoted a lot of his time to speaking at city council meetings, city planning hearings and community events to ensure a safe and successful cannabis industry.
Nicole Hernandez is a proud and celebrated leader on the team who has been influential in PharmLabs Coachella Valley ever since the doors opened in 2017. She graduated from the University of California Davis with a B.S. in Biological Science with an emphasis in Biotechnology and Applied Microbiology. She performed medical immunological microbial research during her collegiate years and her individual research project was on HIV Type I subjects with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). After graduating from college, she worked for a specialized clinical laboratory that provided nationwide testing services focused on endicrinology, molecular genetics, clinical trials, and molecular infectious diseases. She has over 12 years of laboratory experience in a wide range of diverse laboratory settings.
Nicole specialised in Cannabinoids and is the head microbiologist on staff that performs on-site environmental sampling of cannabis facilites to identify sources of contamination. For these clients, she recognizes areas of improvement and aspectic technique and appropriate sample handling to reduce contamination and cross-contamination of the products.
Outside of the lab, she enjoys cooking, smoking meat, hiking, traveling, and spending time with her fur babies.
Vice President of Scientific Operations
Dr. Clarence Gillett recently joined the company in 2019 and oversee all scientific applications and works to keep us on the cutting edge of innovations. As Science Development Director, for two of the leading innovative companies, Metabolon and Biocrates, Dr. Gillett lead efforts to apply mass spectrometry science in the emerging field of metabolomics in animals, and plant studies, and in the advancement of personalized medicine, throughout North America.
He has since been successful in the industry assisting startups meet compliance requirements.
Dr. Gillett holds a PhD in Molecular, Cellular, Developmental, Biology and Genetics from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities; completed his postdoctoral work at the University of California San Francisco; spent his marine biology undergraduate years, with an interest in algae, while enjoying the dives from the California and Hawaii coastlines. He served six years as a Field Medic in the US Army National Guard. When not on the tennis courts, he relishes in the uncertainties of traveling to new countries and engaging with the locals.
Katie North is an accomplished graduate from Texas State University and a California native. In December 2018, she graduated with honors, summa cum laude, where she obtained her Bachelors degree in Biology with a double minor in Biochemistry and Psychology. During her time at Texas State, she participated in in undergraduate research that focused on the use of functionalizing hollow silica microspheres to isolate and concentrate organisms with rapid affinity separation methods. This way, target pathogens could be captured and later identified with colorimetric paper-based immunoassay. Katie hopes to one day further her education by obtaining a PhD in Bioengineering. When she is not in the lab or working on her education, she likes to spend her time staying active and well read.
Nayely Silva recently joinedthe PharmLabs Phamily in February of 2019. She is currently studying biochemistry at the University of California- San Diego to expand her knowledge. Nayely assists the laboratory with aseptic preparation of samples while also operating the water activity and moisture instrument. Outside of work, she enjoys working out and staying healthy.
Senior Pesticide Chemical Scientist
Dr. Robandt joined PharmLabs in 2019, coming from the forensic toxicology industry. He holds his BS in Chemistry from the University of Portland and his PhD in chemistry from Wayne State University, where his research interest was fast heterogenous reactions at ultramicroelectrodes. After graduation, Dr. Robandt worked for the agricultural industry with American Cyanamid, eventually transitioning to a career in forensic toxicology with the Army and the Navy. There he was a Director, maintaining scientific compliance and legal oversight for submitting commands. Dr. Robandt enjoys programming, circuitry, travel, and learning the Thai language in his spare time.
